MANSFIELD, Conn. - The University of Southern Maine women's outdoor track & field team won its sixth consecutive and Little East Conference (LEC) conference record 25th team championship Saturday at Eastern Connecticut State University's Mansfield Outdoor Athletic Complex. The Huskies topped runner-up Keene State College by 14 points. More to come.
Jaigan Boudreau won the discus (42.84m) and shot put (13.00m) for USM, while Alexis Karantza won gold in the 400 hurdles (1:06.10) and Riley Reitchel won gold in the javelin (42.09). Emma O'Brien led a one-two finish for the Huskies in the pole vault after clearing 3.25 meters, while Reitchel was second at 3.10 meters.
UMass Boston's Aryianna Garceau topped the podium in each of her four events, claiming victory in the 100 hurdles (13.77), 100 dash (12.01), 200 dash (25.00) and long jump (5.76m). Her 100 hurdles prelim time of 13.74 is a new LEC Championship record, as was her top mark in the long jump.
Eastern Connecticut's Anaka Eaton was the lone hammer competitor to top 50 meters, winning the event with her toss of 50.82 meters, while fellow Warrior Laci Davis won the triple jump with her leap of 11.56 meters. Keene State's Kallie Warner opened the day's events by winning the 10K (39:08.82), while teammate Maggie St. John won the steeplechase (11:42.42).
Plymouth State's Rose Karow won the 800 (2:19.56) before Lisi Palmer won the high jump (1.57m). The Panthers won two of the three relays, crossing the line first in the 4x400 (4:00.55) and 4x800 (10:04.34).
Rhode Island College's Haley Oliver won the 1,500 (4:44.82) and 5,000 (17:58.29), and was runner-up in the 800 (2:19.56), while Naibel Noriega was first to finish in the 400 dash (57.28). The Anchorwomen topped the podium in the 4x100 with their time of 48.10 seconds.
