Ella Smith (Chicopee, Mass.) - Senior - Western New England
Smith placed first overall at the Saint Joseph (Conn.) Blue Jay Pentathlon with a combined time of 2:55.88, which was more than ten seconds faster than second place. She won the 50 butterfly (27.45, 50 backstroke (28.89), 50 breaststroke (31.74) and 100 IM (1:01.96), and was second in the 50 freestyle (25.84). Smith set a new WNE program record in the 100-yard IM.

Rookie Swimmer of the Week

Jai-Lynn Wheeler (Stonington, Conn.) - Freshman - Eastern Connecticut
Wheeler was the first freshman finisher and took fourth overall at the season-opening Saint Joseph (Conn.) Blue Jay Pentathlon with a combined time of 3:10.05. Wheeler finished third in the 50 freestyle (26.23) and third in the 100 IM (1:07.07).
