PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its first women’s cross country weekly awards of the 2026 season, with Plymouth State University’s Maya Sanzone earning both Runner of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors following an impressive collegiate debut.

Runner & Rookie of the Week – Maya Sanzone, Plymouth State

Sanzone made an immediate impact in her first collegiate race at the NCAA Regional Preview, hosted by Bates College at the Wainwright Recreation Complex in South Portland, Maine, on Saturday. The freshman completed the 3.34K course in 12:44.1, placing 14th overall in a field of 104 runners.

The South Berwick, Maine native was the first Panther to cross the finish line and helped lead Plymouth State to a third-place team finish in the nine-team field with 83 points. The Panthers placed five scoring runners among the top 20, with Sanzone setting the pace for the group.

Sanzone and the Panthers return to competition on Saturday, September 19, at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
