PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its women’s tennis weekly award winners for the week ending September 27, 2026. UMass Boston’s Zainab Patel was named Player of the Week, while teammate Delilah Castro earned Rookie of the Week honors after the duo helped the Beacons secure a 7-0 victory over Salem State University.
Player of the Week – Zainab Patel, UMass Boston
Patel went undefeated in singles and doubles action as UMass Boston swept Salem State, 7-0. The senior from Ahmedabad, India, turned in a dominant performance at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set victory.
Patel also teamed with Tatiana Malone at No. 1 doubles, with the duo cruising to a 6-1 victory to complete an unbeaten day for Patel.
Rookie of the Week – Delilah Castro, UMass Boston
Castro also went unbeaten against Salem State, earning victories at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles. The first-year player from Horizon City, Texas, rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in singles action before teaming with Karina Khalsa for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
With the singles victory, Castro improved to a perfect 6-0 in singles play this season while helping the Beacons complete their 7-0 sweep.
