PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its men’s golf weekly award winners for the week ending September 20, 2026. University of Southern Maine’s SJ Welch swept the conference’s weekly honors, earning both Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week following his performance at the Castleton Invitational.

Player & Rookie of the Week – SJ Welch, Southern Maine

Welch finished second overall at the Castleton Invitational, carding a three-over-par 143 over the two-day event at the par-70, 6,134-yard Rutland Country Club. The first-year golfer from Newport, Maine, opened the tournament with a three-under-par 67, recording seven birdies in the opening round, before shooting a 76 on the second day. Welch finished second among 45 golfers and helped lead Southern Maine to the team title in the nine-team field. The Huskies also set program records for the lowest team round with a three-under-par 277 and the lowest two-round team score with a 20-over-par 580.
