Player of the Week

Julia Boya (Coventry, Conn.) - Junior - Eastern Connecticut
In the team’s 3-1 week including a home Little East sweep of Western Connecticut, starting centerfielder Julia Boya batted .667 (4-for-6) with a 1.667 slugging and .800 on-base percentages and handled six fielding attempts perfectly. Boya was 4-for-6 at the plate with a double, triple home run, six runs scored, five RBI, four walks,  four stolen bases in as many attempts and a sacrifice bunt which sparked a three-run seventh inning in an 11-10 walkoff win against visiting Western Connecticut. She struck out only once on ten plate appearances during the week. In the sweep of WestConn, Boya was 4-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, a double, triple and first career home run, walk and sacrifice bunt. In the second game, she drove in two runs with a two-out double in a three-run fifth inning that cut a five-run deficit to two entering the seventh.

Pitcher of the Week

Elizabeth Mitchell (Coventry, Conn.) - Sophomore - Eastern Connecticut
In the team’s 3-1 week including a home Little East sweep of Western Connecticut, Mitchell was 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 14.2 innings. Against WestConn, Mitchell won both games, going the distance with a seven-hitter in an opening 7-4 win, fanning seven and walking one and pitching the final 2.2 innings in an 11-10 second-game win. In that game, Mitchell struck out four and walked one, striking out the side in the top of the seventh before Eastern scored three runs in a walk-off win in the bottom of the inning. Mitchell began the week with a 13-0 complete-game five inning, one-hit shutout at Nichols College, striking out eight without a walk. She carried a perfect game into the fifth inning of that game. Mitchell also batted .333 during the week with six runs scored and four RBI with a .778 slugging percentage and .538 on-base percentage.

Rookie of the Week

Bre Fontes (Swansea, Mass.) - Freshman - UMass Dartmouth
Fontes helped the Corsairs to a 2-2 mark last week, batting a team-high .583 (7-for-12) while posting a team-best five runs scored with four runs batted in. She also recorded 34 putouts and one assist with no errors on the week at first base. She was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in a 5-4 win over Brandeis on Tuesday, including the game-winning RBI single to center in the bottom of the sixth to give UMass Dartmouth a split of the series. Fontes opened a LEC twin bill at RIC with a 3-for-4 effort with three runs scored and two RBI in an 11-10 eight-inning game-one loss before going 1-for-1 with a run scored and three walks in a 6-4 game-two victory.
