BRUNSWICK, Maine - Four different players found the back of the net for the University of Massachusetts Boston men’s soccer team as it downed Roger Williams University in the First Round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Saturday, 4-1.
The Beacons (13-3-4) will next face regional host Bowdoin College Sunday at 1 p.m. The Polar Bears won their opening round match over Lyon College, 7-2, to advance to the regional final.
UMass Boston never trailed in the contest, talking a 1-0 lead when Eduardo Chirico converted a penalty in the 18th-minute before Ryan Doherty scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 24th-minute, with an assist credited to John Arruda. The Beacons led 3-1 after Doherty set up a goal for Felipe De Andrade in the 55th-minute, and Arruda capped the scoring with his unassisted tally in the 82nd-minute for the 4-1 final.
Nolan McKenna was tremendous in goal for the Beacons, turning away nine of the 10 shots on goal he faced as his record improved to 6-3-1 for the season.
The Hawks’ (13-2-6) lone goal came off the foot of Dylan Robbins in the 39th-minute, cutting Roger Williams’ deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime. TJ Machowski and Eliot Panaccione allowed two goals each while combining for eight saves in goal for the Hawks.
