PENFIELD, N.Y. – A historic season for the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's golf team came to an end on Wednesday at the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships as the Huskies finished in 42nd place and missed the 36-hole cut. The team's all-freshman lineup finished with a two-round score of 659 (+83) after shooting a 331 (+43) in today's round at Midvale Country Club to add to their 328 (+40) from the opening round. This was the first NCAA Division III Championship appearance for the Huskies. The team had previously earned a bid to the 2020 NCAA Championship before that event was canceled.
Freshman Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) was the top finisher for the Huskies on the leaderboard with a two-round score of 160 (+16) to tie for 154th. He shot an 84 (+12) in today's round after firing a 76 (+4) in the opening round. The best round for the Huskies on day two belonged to freshman Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford). Poirier shot eight-over-par 80 and had a birdie on the 10th hole. He tied for 174th with a score of 163 (+19).
Freshman Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional) was a stroke behind Poirier in today's round with an 81 (+9) and tied for 182nd with a 164 (+20). Freshman Owen Moore (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute) tied for 214th with a 174 (+30). Freshman Taylor Farr (Gorham, Maine) rounded out the lineup for the Huskies and placed 225th with a two-round score of 182 (+38).
Fournier led the Huskies with 22 pars over the two rounds. Poirier and Grant tied for second on the team with 18 each.
The top 18 teams have advanced to the final two rounds along with the top six individuals not on one of those teams. Illinois Wesleyan University holds the top spot on the team leaderboard with a score of 595 (+19). Kenyon College and Huntingdon College are tied for second place with a score of 597 (+21) each.
The 2024 Little East Conference champions, the Huskies will be looking to build off a strong season and defend their conference title next fall.
