VICTOR, N.Y. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies carded a 328 (+40) in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships to end the round in 42nd place. The team played its round at Cobblestone Creek Country Club in Victor, N.Y. Freshman Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) fired a four-over-par 76 to lead the Huskies. He is tied for 75th on the individual leaderboard.
Freshmen Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford) and Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional) are tied for 194th with each player shooting an 83 (+11). Poirier started his round with a birdie on the first hole and was one-over-par 37 through the first nine holes. Grant finished strong by shooting one-over-par 37 on the back nine and had a birdie on the 16th hole.
Freshman Owen Moore (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute) and Taylor Farr (Gorham, Maine) also competed for the Huskies. Moore shot an 86 (+14) and is tied for 212th, while sits in 225th place with a 94 (+24).
The second round starts tomorrow at 8:00 am. The field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six (6) individuals not on one of those teams after tomorrow's round. Ties for the cut will be broken by a sudden death playoff or, if necessary, by the non-sudden death tiebreaking procedures set forth in this section.
