PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its annual postseason field hockey honors Thursday, following a vote of the league’s head coaches. Keene State College senior Grace Bazin was named the 2025 LEC Offensive Player of the Year, while Vermont State University Castleton senior back Jess Smithson was named LEC Defensive Player of the Year.
Bazin repeated as LEC Offensive Player of the Year after leading all NCAA divisions in scoring with 37 goals and 83 total points. Her 37 goals are the most in a single season in program history, while her 83 total points put her second on the all-time single-season list. She now ranks second in program history in goals (82) and total points (187).
Smithson was once again named the LEC Defensive Player of the Year, first earning the honor in 2024. She led the team and ranked third in the LEC with 11 defensive saves, while also contributing five goals and 12 total points. She is tied for sixth in the nation in defensive saves this season.
The University of Southern Maine had a pair of major award winners in senior goalkeeper Eleanor Folsom and freshman forward Maddie Niles.
Folsom was named the 2025 LEC Goalkeeper of the Year after posting a 1.74 goals against average and .802 save percentage, totaling 146 saves while starting in all 22 games. She led the LEC in save percentage and shutouts (4), was second in goals against average and third in saves.
Niles was named the 2025 LEC Rookie of the Year after finishing second on the team in scoring with eight goals and four assists for 20 points. She tied for ninth in the league in goals and finished the season 12th in the conference in total points.
Coaching Staff of the Year went to Eastern Connecticut State University. Head coach Christine Hutchison, and assistant coaches Laura Bratz, Amanda Lester and Kathryn Noe Kozey guided the Warriors to an overall record of 12-9, which included a perfect 6-0 record in the LEC to claim the conference regular season title. Eastern Connecticut advanced to the LEC tournament final for the first time since 2021.
