LEC Announces 2023 Field Hockey Championship Tournament Field

PROVIDENCE. R.I. - The Little East Conference (LEC) announced the field for the 2023 LEC Field Hockey Championship Tournament Saturday, following the conclusion of the league portion of the 2023 regular season slate.
 
First Round byes went to 2023 LEC regular season champion and No. 1 Seed Southern Maine (6-0) and No. 2 Seed Keene State (5-1), who will host their respective semifinals Thursday, November 2. The Huskies will host the winner of the First Round match between No. 4 Vermont State Castleton (3-3) and No. 5 Eastern Connecticut (1-5), while the Owls will host the winner of No. 3 Plymouth State (4-2) and No. 6 Western Connecticut (1-5).
 
The three-way tie between Eastern WestConn and UMass Dartmouth for the final two playoff berths was determined based on the LEC’s tie-breaking procedures.
 
Southern Maine is the top seed in the tournament for the second consecutive season, and is in search of its first LEC tournament title since 2003. The Spartans are the defending LEC tournament champion, having defeated USM in last year’s final, 2-1, to claim their first conference title in any sport since joining the LEC for the 2018-19 academic year.
 
The Owls own a LEC-record 14 tournament title wins, with its last coming in 2018. Plymouth State is a three-time conference champion (2000-02), while the Warriors won their first-ever LEC title just two years ago in 2021.

No. 3 Plymouth State hosts No. 6 Western Connecticut
No. 4 VTSU Castleton hosts No. 5 Eastern Connecticut
 
Thursday, Nov. 2 - Semifinals
No. 1 Southern Maine hosts 4/5 Winner
No. 2 Keene State hosts 3/6 Winner
 
Saturday, Nov. 4 - Final
