Field Athlete of the Week
Chelsea Yang (Warwick, R.I.) - Senior - Rhode Island College
Yang claimed LEC Field Athlete of the Week honors after she placed first in the weight throw (18.08m) and fifth in the shot (9.90m) as RIC finished second (6 teams) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational. She is one of just three women to top 18 meters in the weight this season. Her top toss of the year, 18.49 meters at Springfield College two weeks ago, remains the No. 1 mark in the country.
Track Athlete of the Week
Kait Bernier (Dartmouth, Mass.) - Senior - UMass Dartmouth
Bernier was named the LEC Track Athlete of the Week after placing fifth in the 400 mete dash (59.76) and ninth in the 60 meter dash (8.32) at Tufts’ Cupid Challenge. Her time in the 400 places her 40th in the nation and eighth in New England.
Rookie Field Athlete of the Week
Phoebe Slovenski (Cape Neddick, Maine) - Freshman - Southern Maine
Slovenski was named LEC Rookie Field Athlete of the Week after taking fourth in the pole vault at the Maine State Championships. Her mark of 3.10 meters ranks first in the LEC and 18th in New England.
Rookie Track Athlete of the Week
Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) Sophomore - Southern Maine
Gould was named the LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Week after she won the 200m dash with a time of 26.62 seconds at the Maine State Championships, which is tied for 14th-best in New England. She then ran the lead leg of USM's 4x200 relay that took second in 1:47.63, and the 4x400m relay that placed third in 4:17.97.
Relay of the Week
Southern Maine 4x200
The Huskies’ 4x200 relay of Gould, junior Maddie Fornasier (South Burlington, Vt.), freshman Anna Reny (Gardiner, Maine), and sophomore Emma Noonan (Steep Falls, Maine) ran a blistering time of 1:47.63 at the Maine State Championships to take down regional powerhouses Bates and Bowdoin while finishing second only to the quartet from Colby. Their time currently ranks sixth in New England this season.
