CASTLETON, Vt. - The University of Southern Maine won its fifth consecutive Little East Conference men’s cross country championship after totaling 55 team points Saturday afternoon at Castleton University. The Huskies edged out Eastern Connecticut State University by a single point to secure the program’s 10th league title.
UMass Boston’s Jimmy Cannon won the individual title after crossing the finish line in 26:11, which was 14 seconds better than Ryan Escoda’s second-place time of 26:25 that paced the Warriors. Each earned First-Team All-LEC honors for their top-seven finish, as did Southern Maine’s Masho Gebremikael(third, 26:35) and Jordan Duplessie (fourth, 26:54, UMass Dartmouth’s Steve Stromski (fifth, 27:04), Eastern’s John Walker(sixth, 27:06), Plymouth State’s Michael Olson (tie-seventh, 27:10) and Keene State’s Jake Pearl (tie-seventh, 27:10)
Earned Second-Team All-LEC honors for placing eighth-14th were Keene State's Robert St. Laurent (ninth, 27:19), Western Connecticut’s Connor Wilcox (10th, 27:19), Plymouth State’s Jacob Gallaher (11th, 27:35) and Brent Coope (13th, 27:45), Southern Maine’s Cody Mathewson (13th, 27:43) and Eastern Connecticut’s (Jorich Swift (14th, 27:45).
