BSU Sweeps 1-Meter Podium, WNE’s Smith Sets Another LEC Record to Highlight Third Day of 2026 LEC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. - A pair of LEC records fell on the third night of competition at the 2026 Little East Conference (LEC) Women’ Swimming & Diving Championship at the Boston Sports Institute Friday night. 

Eastern Connecticut State University holds a commanding lead in the team standings through three days of competition, totaling 605.5 points. Bridgewater State University sits in second place with 394 points, while Keene State College (354) holds a narrow lead over Husson University (333) for third. 

Cailey Simard led a Bridgewater State podium sweep in the 1-meter diving competition, posting a gold medal winning score of 450.95 points. Sienna DeLucia won silver with 418.40 points, while Gianna Varady earned bronze with 382.45 points. Simard and DeLucia both met the NCAA Automatic qualifying standard with their scores, and will compete at the NCAA Division III Diving Regional at Connecticut College February 27-28. 

Keene State’s Rory Lee closed on the morning’s swimming competition by winning the 1,000 freestyle in 11:11.80. Western New England’s Ella Smith opened the night’s individual events with a LEC-record setting time of 4:35.57 to win the 400 IM, while fellow Golden Bear Caitlin Guntley topped the field in the 50 butterfly with her winning time of 26.82 seconds. 

Eastern Connecticut had a one-two finish in the 200 freestyle, as Jai-Lynn Wheeler (1:59.22) edged Julia Ames (2:03.24) for the victory. Fellow Warrior Tasha Frisch took home the gold medal in the 100 breaststroke after clocking in at 1:09.51, while Husson’s Emily Kennard won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.45. 

The Warriors’ 200 medley relay opened the night session with a first-place time of 1:51.09, while their 800 freestyle relay capped the night with a LEC-record setting time of 8:14.02 to take the top of the podium.

Competition resumes at the LEC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship Sunday morning at 10 a.m. before concluding with Sunday night’s finals events that get underway at 5:30 p.m.
