Yankee Ford LEC Field Hockey Athletes of the Week: September 29, 2025 9/29/2025 2:18:12 PM Offensive Player of the Week Emma Sanson (Thomaston, Conn.) - Senior - Forward - Eastern Connecticut Sanson scored two goals and set up a third in the Warriors’ 4-0 non-conference rout of Maine-Farmington Saturday. She scored both of her goals in the first 13 minutes of the match, and later added an assist in the final minutes of the third quarter. It was her second five-point match of the season. Defensive Player of the Week Kyla Napolitano (Warwick, R.I.) - Senior - Back - Plymouth State Napolitano had a pair of defensive saves to help Plymouth State edge past NEC, 2-1, in overtime on Wednesday; it was the Panthers’ only contest of the week. She cleared a ball off the goal line in the ninth-minute to keep the game scoreless, then added another goal-saving play in the 29th-minute to preserve the Panthers’ 1-0 lead at the time. Goalkeeper of the Week Natalie Merrick (East Longmeadow, Mass.) - Freshman - Plymouth State Merrick made 15 saves in the Panthers’ 2-1 overtime win over New England College Wednesday. With the game deadlocked at 1-1, Merrick buckled down to make eight saves in the fourth quarter and another two in OT as PSU rallied for the win. Rookie of the Week Ellenoire Schoen (Newtown, Conn.) Freshman - Midfield - Western Connecticut Schoen was one of four goal scorers for the Wolves as they topped LEC-rival UMass Dartmouth Saturday, 4-1. Her tally in the 45th-minute gave WestConn a 3-1 lead in that contest. It was her second goal of the season, and first since the Wolves’ 3-1 season-opening win over Saint Joseph (Conn.).
