KEENE, N.H. - Top-seeded Keene State College secured a spot in the 2025 Little East Conference Baseball Championship Tournament Final Friday morning, closing out a 7-4 win over No. 5 Rhode Island College that was halted Friday night due to rain. Saturday’s second game between No. 2 UMass Boston and No. 3 Eastern Connecticut was halted due to rain in the bottom of the sixth with the Warriors leading 8-3 and will resume Saturday at 4 p.m.
The winner of the Eastern Connecticut-UMass Boston game will face the Anchormen for the second berth in the LEC tournament final approximately 50 minutes following the conclusion of their contest. Both games will take place at Franklin Pierce University’s Pappas Field.
The 2025 LEC title will be played for on Sunday, May 11. Start time and location will be determined Saturday afternoon.
The Owls scored each if their seven runs on Friday night before the game was halted heading into the bottom of the eight. Evan Cali scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first as Jonathan Chatfield worked a bases-loaded walk before Shea Zina plated Tommy Ahlers and Evan McCue with a single to left. Chatfield then scored from second on Otis Follet’s single to right, giving the Owls an early 4-0 advantage.
KSC’s lead grew to 7-0 with a three-run fourth that featured a two-RBI single to left from Ahlers that scored Cali and Domminic Tagliaferro. Those proved to be their final runs of the game.
The Anchormen got on the board in the top of the fifth on a two-run blast to left off the bat of Parker Camelo. In the top of the eighth, Daniel Cascio drove in Lucas Pierce with a single to left, cutting RIC’s deficit to 7-3 just before the game was halted.
The resumption of play saw Parella strand a pair of Owl runners in the bottom of the eighth to keep the Anchormen’s deficit in-tact. RIC was only able to muster one run in the top of the ninth as Justin Wardwell drew a two-out walk and scored on Daniel Trzepacz’s double down the right field line. Liam Conley then froze Pierce at the plate for the final out of the contest.
Jake Jachym improved to 5-1 on the hill for the Owls after allowing three runs on nine hits while fanning four batters over his eight innings of work. Samuel Gray took the loss for RIC after allowing four runs on five hits and recording just one out in the first frame, dropping his record to 2-6.
