Player of the Week

Bri Melchionda (Marshfield, Mass.) - Graduate Student - Pitcher/Designated Player - UMass Boston
Melchionda was named the LEC Player of the Week after batting .818 (9-for-11) and slugging 1.273 over a 4-0 week for the Beacons, during which she totaled three extra-base hits, five RBI and four runs scored. She opened the week going a 3-for-3 with a double, a two-run home run and three RBI in a 5-4 game-one win over Emmanuel before going 2-for-2 with a double, and RBI and a run scored in a 7-0 game-two triumph over the Saint. Melchionda then went a combined 4-for-6 with two runs scored and one RBI as UMass Boston swept Rivier by scores of 10-8 and 11-4. The graduate student’s one pitching appearance was a complete-game effort in the opener versus Emmanuel, which saw her fan 12 batters over seven innings.  

Pitcher of the Week

Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) - Sophomore - Rhode Island College
von der Linden was named the LEC Pitcher of the Week after she went 2-0 with a 0.55 ERA and eight strikeouts over 12.2 innings of work as the Anchorwomen went 3-1 last week. She came on in relief and picked up the win in RIC’s 4-3 win over Salve Regina Thursday, hurling 5.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out seven. von der Linden closed her week by firing a complete game, three-hit shutout, striking out three, as RIC bested Southern Maine Friday, 5-0.

Rookie of the Week

Victoria Wiatrak (Cromwell, Conn.) - Freshman - Catcher - Western Connecticut
Wiatrak was named the LEC Rookie of the Week after batting .500 (4-for-8) with one double, one RBI and one run scored over her three games played - all wins - in a 3-1 week for the Wolves. She was 2-for-3 at the dish in a 5-4 game-two win over Plymouth State Thursday before going a combined 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in a non-conference sweep (6-4 and 10-8) of St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) Friday.
