Player of the Week
Kenzie Bessette (Cranston, R.I.) - Junior - Outfield - Plymouth State
Bessette was named the LEC Player of Week after batting .548 (17-for-31) and slugging .742 as she totaled four doubles, one triples, seven runs scored and 11 RBI in a 5-4 week for the Panthers on their southern trip. She had at least one hit in each of those nine games, with six multi-hit games.
Bessette was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in an 8-4 win over Springfield and was 3-for-4 with a run scored in a 4-3 setback to SUNY Cortland. She was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI in a 9-1 win over Trinity (Conn.) to open her week, and capped it off going 2-for-2 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in a 9-1 triumph over Knox.
Pitcher of the Week
Jacqueline Cherry (Franklin, Mass.) - Graduate Student - UMass Boston
Cherry was named the LEC Pitcher of the Week after firing a pair of complete-game shutout victories for the Beacons to close out their spring break trip last week, during which she ranked up 25 strikeouts over 14 innings of work. She fanned 13 batters while yielding just two hits in a 5-0 win over Hartwick before allowing five hits while striking out 12 batters in a 3-0 win over SUNY Oswego.
Rookie of the Week
Abby Weiterman (West Bend, Wisc.) - Freshman - Catcher/Utility - Keene State
Weiterman was named the LEC Rookie of the Week after batting .355 (11-for-31) with two extra-base hits, nine runs scored and eight RBI in a 6-3 week for the Owls down south. She was 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in an 11-3 win over Salem State before going 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored in a 12-0 rout of Keuka and driving in a run with her only hit of the game in a 4-3 win over Wesleyan (Conn.). The freshman was 3-for-5 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored in an 11-10 setback to SUNY Brockport and was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run discord in a 7-6 loss to Juniata.
