LEC Announces 2025 Men’s Indoor Track & Field Major Awards and All-Conference Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its annual men’s indoor track & field awards Thursday, following a vote to determine the major award recipients by the LEC’s head coaches. All-conference teams were determined based on performance at Saturday’s LEC Indoor track & Field Championships that were hosted by Rhode Island College at the Providence Career & Technical Academy.
 
Track Athlete of the Year: Dylan Flewelling, Plymouth State
  • 2025 LEC Champion in the mile run (4:20.65) and 3,000-meter run (8:54.37). His mile time is the top mark in the LEC this season, while his 3,000 time is fourth-best in the LEC.
  • Ran a LEC-best time of 14:58.71 (converted) at Boston University’s John Thomas Terrier Classic. His actual time of 14:49.19 ranks him 13th in New England.
  • His converted mile time of 4:17.37 from the LEC Championships ranks him 33rd in New England.
 
Field Athlete of the Year: Joe Uwanogho, UMass Dartmouth
  • Top-ranked performer in the weight throw in the LEC this season. His mark of 18.46 meters at the Suffolk Relays rank him 14th in NCAA Division III this season. It is also the top mark in New England.
  • He currently ranks fifth in the LEC and 24th in New England in the shot put with a throw of 13.99 meters at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational.
  • Missed the LEC Indoor Championships due to injury.
 
Rookie Track Athlete of the Year: Joey Richards, Southern Maine
  • LEC Champion in the 200 (22.18) and 400 (49.38) dash.
  • His 200 time from the LEC meet ranks him first in the conference and 45th in NCAA Division III. His converted time of 21.79 is fifth-best in New England.
  • Richards’ converted 400 time of 48.84 from Boston University’s John Thomas Terrier Classic ranks 19th in the nation. His actual time of 48.07 from that race is second-best in New England.
 
Rookie Field Athlete of the Year: Kenny Jean-Michel, UMass Dartmouth
  • LEC Champion in the high jump after clearing 1.98 meters. That mark ranks second in the LEC, seventh in New England and 41st in NCAA Division III this season.
  • His top mark of 12.63 meters in the triple jump ranks from Wheaton’s Lyons Invite ninth in the LEC this season.
  • His top mark of 6.01 meters in the long jump at the Suffolk Relays is 20th in the LEC.
 
Coaching Staff of the Year: University of Southern Maine
  • Head Coach: Rob Whitten
  • Assistant Coaches: Ryan Dyer, Jim Karcanes, Jim Giroux, Mike Drummey, Jeff Amos
  • Guided the Huskies to their second consecutive LEC indoor team title, marking the LEC-record 16th team title win in program history.
