INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Southern Maine women’s soccer team will take on fourth-ranked and regional host Messiah University in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, it was announced by the national office Monday morning. The match will take place Saturday at a time to be determined.
The Huskies (11-10-2) earned the Little East Conference’s automatic berth in the tournament field after going 3-0-0 in last week’s conference tournament as the No. 3 Seed. The Huskies downed No. 6 UMass Boston (4-2) before upsetting No. 2 Keene State 3-2 in overtime to advance to the final, where they blanked No. 4 Western Connecticut State University, 3-0.
The Falcons are 19-2-0 so far this season, and won the MAC Commonwealth title by defeating Eastern University (3-0) and Stevenson University (4-0) in dominating fashion.
The other side of the regional bracket will see Amherst College (10-4-2) take on SUNY Cortland (14-2-4). The Mammoths are receiving votes in the national poll and earned an at-large selection after falling to Colby College in the NESCAC quarterfinals, 2-0, while the Red Dragons won the SUNYAC title be defeating Buffalo State (5-0) and SUNY Plattsburgh (3-2).
