DARTMOUTH, Mass. – D3baseball.com has released its Preseason All-America Team for the 2025 season and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete Adam Maher has been selected. The senior pitcher was tabbed to the Second Team, becoming just the second Corsair to earn Preseason All-America honors.
Maher joins Matt Cronin '19 as the only two UMass Dartmouth student-athletes to garner the preseason nod. Cronin – who was a the 2018 Little East Pitcher of the Year and a two-time First Team All-American – earned the preseason honor in 2019.
Maher, who enters his senior season in 2025, led the Corsairs with a 3.45 earned run average, going 6-3 overall in 11 appearances in 2024. In 57.1 innings pitched, he allowed just 27 runs (22 earned) on 41 hits, surrendering just 19 walks to 84 strikeouts.
With an opposing batting average of just .200, Maher owned a 1.05 WHIP, while ranking first in the Little East in strikeouts and strikeouts per nine innings (13.19). His opposing batting average was second among LEC pitchers. Maher ranked third in the conference in ERA and wins.
2024 saw Maher earn Little East Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-LEC honors. He was twice named the LEC Pitcher of the Week twice, also garnering D3baseball.com Team of the Week honors twice. He was named the NCBWA Division III National Pitcher of the Week following the Corsairs 5-0 win over the University of Southern Maine where he posted a career-high 14 strikeouts, allowing just two walks and no hits over nine-innings for his second career no-hitter.
Amongst Division III's best, Maher was 14th in strikeouts per nine innings, 36th in WHIP and 40th in strikeouts.
Maher has pitched four games in 2024 with 10 or more strikeouts, including a 13-strikeout effort in a 7-3 win over Fitchburg State to open the season – a game which he allowed just one run over 5.0 innings. He also posted 11 strikeouts over 6.0 innings, allowing just two runs (1 earned) on four hits in an 11-2 win against VTSU Castleton on April 13. Maher threw 115 pitches, allowing just three hits and no runs with five K's in a 7.0 inning 6-0 victory against Southern Maine in the Little East Tournament opener on May 9.
An All-LEC Second Team selection last season, Maher made 10 starts on the mound during his sophomore season, boasting a 4-3 overall record. He sported a 3.43 earned run average over 57.2 innings of work. In 205 at-bats faced, the lefty allowed 44 hits and just 22 earned runs. He struck out 61 batters and held opponents to a .215 clip against him. Highlighting his sophomore season was a seven-inning no-hitter and shutout against WestConn with 10 strikeouts on March 24.
As a rookie, Maher took the mound in nine games, earning one start. He allowed 14 hits and just eight earned runs for a 2.81 ERA over 25.2 innings of work. Maher struck out 30 out of 85 batters faced and finished the season with a 1-0 record and a save.
UMass Dartmouth concluded the season with a 25-20-1 overall record, going 12-4 in Little East action. The Corsairs earned the third seed in the LEC Tournament, defeating Southern Maine (6-0), nationally-ranked Eastern Connecticut State (4-0) and UMass Boston (12-1 & 4-3 in 10 innings) to earn their second LEC Tournament title in program history.
The Corsairs earned the automatic qualifying bid for the Little East into the NCAA Tournament and made the program's eighth appearance as they were selected for the Babson Park Regional at Govoni Park. UMass Dartmouth shouldered an opening loss to nationally-ranked Salisbury (7-0), before upsetting nationally-ranked Babson (7-3) in an elimination game. The Corsairs shouldered a tough loss to the Gulls once again (9-0) to conclude their season.
