DANBURY, Conn. - Top-seeded and two-time defending Little East Conference (LEC) women’s lacrosse champion Western Connecticut State University will once again play for the league title after defeating fourth-seeded Keene State College in Thursday’s semifinal round. The Wolves improved to 15-2 with the win, while the Owls season ends at 8-11.
Dominique DeMarsico led the way for WestConn with four goals and one assist in the victory, while Colleen Crotty potted three goals on the day. Six different players contributed one goal each for the Wolves, while Anna Schipf stopped eight of the 11 shots on goal she faced to improve her record to 13-2 between the pipes.
Haile Ratajack scored all three Keene State goals. Kara Moriarty totaled 10 saves for the Owls as her record fell to 7-4.
The score was just 1-1 at the conclusion of the first quarter, with Ratajack opening the scoring 4:40 into the contest before Crotty knotted the score with 6:21 left in the period. That tally from Crotty started an eight-goal run for WestConn, which scored all six second quarter goals before Alexa Riggio opened the second half scoring just 45 seconds into the third, building the Wolves’ lead to 8-1.
DeMarsico scored three of her four goals in the second half. Her tally midway through the third started a 5-1 run to close out the game, which she capped off with back-to-back tallies in the final two minutes of the match.
WestConn will host the 2023 LEC Women’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament Final on Saturday against No. 2 Plymouth State University at noon. The game will air live on the
