    Interim Assistant Commissioner

Commissioner Cora H. Brumley has announced the appointment of Kate Thomas as Interim Assistant Commissioner for the Little East Conference.

Thomas will serve as the primary communications representative for the Little East Conference, overseeing all strategic efforts in new media, website development and sports information. She will also serve as the main media contact for the league.

“Ms. Thomas possesses an array of media relations and athletics administration experience and other skills that will prove beneficial the LEC membership.  I applaud her for stepping up to assist the league during this transitional interval,” said Commissioner Brumley.

Thomas replaces Megan Erbes, who served as the LEC’s first female Assistant Commissioner prior to recently accepting the position of Sports Information Director at LEC member institution, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

“I would like to thank Megan for her tireless work ethic while serving as the Assistant Commissioner with the Little East Conference,” said UMass Boston Vice Chancellor for Athletics and LEC Athletic Directors Council Chair Charlie Titus. “Her dedication to the LEC has helped to continue the success of the conference, and I know with Kate taking over that trend will continue throughout this year.  The Little East prides itself as being one of the top conferences in Division III, and I know that we will continue to lead the way as we transition from Megan to Kate.”

During Erbes’ tenure, the Little East Conference undertook several advancements in multimedia.  Most notably, the LEC was the first NCAA conference in New England to contract with Stretch Internet‘s Game Central 2.0 platform.  As a result, Erbes implemented the LEC’s “Feature Fridays” videos, one of which graced the www.ncaa.org Division III homepage.  Erbes also launched the LEC’s Instagram account and was the architect of a 44% increase of LEC Twitter followers within her 18 months of service.  Most recently, she oversaw the redesign of the LEC’s website, littleeast.com, which features improved navigation and dramatically enhanced historical archives.  “Megan has exceeded the membership’s expectations in advancing the Little East Conference’s strategic communication priorities, said Commissioner Cora H. Brumley.  “I thank her for her service and am pleased she will remain within the LEC family.”

Prior to joining the Little East Conference, Thomas served as the Assistant General Manager for the Brockton Rox, a member of the Future Collegiate Baseball League. She was responsible for management and administration of the baseball front office, stadium, and event complex as well as coordinating all aspects of player personnel and corporate sales.  Thomas also provided all media services, including multimedia publicity, public relations and marketing.  Additionally, Thomas oversaw the internship program, and was responsible for the recruitment and training of a 20-intern class for each each summer season.

Currently serving as the part time UMass Dartmouth Women’s Soccer Head Coach, Thomas has extensive soccer coaching experience.  Prior to her return to New England, Thomas served at the State University of New York at Canton in a variety of roles; Assistant Sports Information Director, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Advisor, Sport Management Department course developer/instructor and Women’s Soccer Head Coach.

A 2006 graduate of Keuka College, Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Education in Sport Management from Springfield College in 2011.
