Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week for October 7, 2019

Offensive Player of the Week

Osheonna Israel (Western Connecticut) - Junior - Midfield - South Windsor, Conn.
Israel came off the bench to score four goals in three Colonial wins last week, and now ranks third on the team with five goals for the season. She opened the week with a pair of goals in a 7-1 non-conference route visiting Manhattanville before finding the back of the net in a 5-1 non-conference home win over John Jay. The junior capped the week by scoring the game-winning goal in the 79th-minute of Saturday's 2-1 LEC victory at Keene State.

Defensive Player of the Week

Dani Anderson (UMass Boston) – Sophomore – Defense/Midfield - St. Augustine, Fla.
Anderson repeats as LEC Defensive Player of the Week after leading a Beacons' defense that held opponents to just one goal in a 2-0-0 week. UMass Boston held in-state rival UMass Dartmouth to just five shots (four on-goal) in a 1-0 overtime win Wednesday before allowing seven shots (four on-goal) in Saturday's 4-1 win over Plymouth State. The Beacons have allowed just one goal through four conference games this season, which currently sees them sitting atop the LEC standings with 12 points.

Goalkeeper of the Week

Karly Martin (Western Connecticut) - Sophomore - Bristol, Conn.
Martin repeats as LEC Goalkeeper of the Week after going 3-0-0 with just one goal allowed over her 180 minutes played. She opened the week stopping both shots on goal she faced in the opening 45 minutes of a 7-1 non-conference win over Manhattanville and earned the decision after making three saves during a scoreless first half in a 5-1 non-conference win over John Jay. The sophomore capped the week with a nine-save effort in Saturday's 2-1 win at Keene State. Martin is now 8-4-0 with a 1.18 goals against average and a .797 save percentage, with 51 saves for the year. She ranks second in the LEC in wins and goals against average, is third in save percentage and fifth in saves.

Rookie of the Week

Emily Belval (Eastern Connecticut) - Freshman - Defense - Southbury, Conn.
Belval had a hand in two of the Warriors' three goals in a 2-0-0 week, while helping the defense limit their opponents to just a single goal. She scored her first career goal on her first career shot in Saturday's 1-0 conference victory at Southern Maine, cashing in on a free kick in the 40th-minute. She recorded her first collegiate point earlier in the week, setting up the eventual game-winner in the 48th-minute of a 2-1 LEC win over Rhode Island College.
