GORHAM, Maine – University of Southern Maine Huskies' graduate student 1B Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) became the 32nd player in the history of the USM baseball program to receive ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-American honors, which were announced Thursday evening by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Douin was named to the Division III All-America second team at first base. Douin was also named a first team All-American at first base by D3baseball.com
Douin is the first Southern Maine baseball player to earn ABCA All-American honors since Cam Seymour received the honor as a freshman in 2021 as a designated hitter. Douin is the third Husky first basemen to earn the honor, joining Mike Eaton '11 in 2011 and Vinnie Degifico '94 in 1986. The 13th Husky to earn D3baseball.com All-America honors and the first since Ben Lambert '21 earned third team honors in 2021, Douin joins Eaton as the only other first basemen to earn the award for Southern Maine.
"I am proud of Kyle for this truly deserved honor," noted second year head coach Scott Heath, the 2026 Little East Conference Coach of the Year. "Along with his leadership, Kyle's dedication to his team and his craft was a driving force behind our success this season, and these honors cement him alongside some side of the best players in this program's storied history."
The left-handed hitting Douin capped a standout career in 2026 hitting a career-best .443 going 81-for-183 at the plate with 70 runs scored and a team-leading 72 RBI, collecting 16 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs. Douin also had a .549 on-base percentage and a .787 slugging percentage for a team-best OPS of 1.336. Posting 26 multi-hit games, Douin had a season-high five hits on a 5-for-6 effort at the dish with five RBI in a 19-6 win at Keene State in the regular season. Helping Southern Maine to the 2026 Little East Conference Championship, Douin finished the tourney 7-for-16 at the plate (.438 average) with seven runs scored and nine RBI, including five RBI in the Huskies' 14-6 come-from-behind win over UMass Dartmouth to advance to the championship game.
Finishing his career as the program's all-time leader in home runs (38) and RBI (210), Douin completed his time as a Husky (2023-2026) hitting .374 with 246 hits, including 52 doubles, 13 triples and 38 home runs with a .666 slugging percentage. Defensively, Douin had 823 putouts and 136 assists in his career for a .976 fielding percentage. He was named the 2026 Little East Conference, ABCA Region II and D3Baseball.com Region II Player of the Year.
A two-time Academic All-American (2024 and 2025), Douin earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern Maine in May 2025 and is pursuing his master's degree in Leadership Studies at USM. Douin awaits 2026 academic honors in the next few weeks.
Southern Maine ends the season with a record of 32-12, the program's most wins since the 2021 team went 34-11. The 2026 Little East Conference Regular Season and Tournament Champions, the Huskies reached the NCAA Tournament for the 27th time in program history and the first time since 2021.
