BOSTON - Reilly Collins and Jack Schartner both had three goals and one helper to propel third-seeded UMass Boston to a 13-9 victory over sixth-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University on the opening day of the 2026 Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament Tuesday at James Cotter Field. The Beacons improved to 11-7 with the win.
The Warriors had an early 2-1 lead before Schartner's first goal of the game started a three-goal UMass Boston run. He found the back of the net with 5:47 left in the quarter before Patrick Dwinnells and Collins scored just 19 seconds apart to give the Beacons the lead for good in the game at 4-2. Tyler Hilgert set up all three tallies on his way to a five-assist performance for the contest.
UMass Boston led 6-4 in the second quarter before Hilgert and Nolen Beauregard scored to close out the first half, putting the Beacons up 8-4 at the break. The two teams traded goals for the duration of the second half for the 13-9 final. James Boldy picked up the win in goal after making 12 saves, improving his record to 11-7. Jack Baker was dominant on the faceoff, winning 16-of-23 and scooping up seven ground balls.
Landon Mabb led the Warriors' (5-8) offense with three goals and three assists, while Warren Channing and Seamus Donoghue both had two goals and one assist. Gregory Hilinski had 14 saves in the loss for Eastern.
The Beacons will next head to second-seeded Massachusetts Maritime Academy Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. semifinal matchup. UMass Boston dropped an overtime heartbreaker to the Buccaneers back on March 27, 16-15.
