PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) has announced its men’s soccer weekly awards for the week ending Oct. 4, 2026. Plymouth State’s George Bergin earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, Rhode Island College’s Alijah Nunes was named Defensive Player of the Week, Vermont State Castleton’s Xander Berthiaume received Goalkeeper of the Week recognition and Plymouth State’s Bryant Amaral was selected Rookie of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week: George Bergin, Plymouth State

Bergin, a junior midfielder from Brentwood, N.H., totaled two goals and three assists for seven points as the Panthers went 1-0-1 during the week.

He contributed to all four Plymouth State goals in Wednesday’s 4-4 draw with the University of New England, scoring twice and assisting on two goals. Bergin then assisted on the game’s lone goal in Saturday’s 1-0 conference victory at Eastern Connecticut. He finished the week with four shots.

Defensive Player of the Week: Alijah Nunes, Rhode Island College

Nunes, a senior back from Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago, helped the Anchormen post a 1-0-1 record while contributing the game-winning goal in their victory at Framingham State.

He helped limit Salve Regina to eight shots, including just two on goal, in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw. Nunes followed with another strong defensive performance and scored the deciding goal in Friday’s 2-1 win at Framingham State. He totaled six shots across the two matches.

Goalkeeper of the Week: Xander Berthiaume, Vermont State Castleton

Berthiaume, a junior from Colchester, Vt., recorded his first shutout of the season in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over UMass Dartmouth, helping the Spartans earn their first conference win of the year.

He played all 90 minutes and stopped all nine shots on goal for a season-high nine saves. Berthiaume finished the match with a 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 goals-against average.

Rookie of the Week: Bryant Amaral, Plymouth State

Amaral, a freshman goalkeeper from Coventry, R.I., totaled eight saves and one shutout as the Panthers finished the week 1-0-1. He played all 180 minutes across the two matches, posting a .667 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.

Amaral made four saves in Wednesday’s 4-4 draw with the University of New England before stopping all four shots on goal in Saturday’s 1-0 conference victory at Eastern Connecticut.
