PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the second time in as many seasons, the University of Southern Maine captured the Little East Conference men’s and women’s indoor track & field team championships, this time at the Providence Career & Technical Academy. The Huskies’ men’s team scored 149 team points, while their women’s program racked up 131 team points.
USM took home the women’s title for the 24th time, while taking home the men’s title for the 16th time. Both are LEC records. This is the 14th time in program history the Huskies swept the team titles.

MEN’S RECAP: USM’s Ethan Shain turned in a LEC-record time of 6.87 seconds to win the 60-meter dash. Joey Richards led a one-two finish for the Huskies in the 400 with his time of 49.38 seconds, edging teammate and runner-up Maddon Cahill (50.25), before topping the podium in the 200 with his winning time of 22.18 seconds.
Cahill, Albert Matrille, Logan Berube and Richards closed out the day’s events with a winning time of 3:25.76 in the 4x400 relay. Cyrus Evans won gold in the 600 after crossing the finish line in 1:23.58.
USM’s Michael D’Amico won the gold in the pole vault, while fellow Husky Charistian Burke tied for second to take home a silver medal; both cleared 4.30 meters, as did Keene State’s Cade Latuillipe, who also tied for second. D'Amico won the tie-break for the top of the podium by clearing 4.30 meters on his first attempt. Jacob Jackson (13.57m) and Treshaun Brown (13.56m) posted a one-two finish in the triple jump, while Will Carrolton won gold in the shot put with a final toss that went 15.42 meters.
Eastern Connecticut’s Adam Schimmelpfennig won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.52 seconds, while the Warriors’ winning 4x800 of Zach D'Andrea, Joseph Caruk, Samuel Ambrocio and Reynaldo Torres combined to go 8:12.81. Michael Collins, Jr. went 7.27 meters in his final attempt to win the long jump.
Keene State’s Jake Velazquez opened the day’s competition on the track with a LEC-record setting performance in the 5K, topping the field in 15:06.46. The Owls’ 4x200 relay of Aidan Law, Jonathan DeAguiar, Sean Von Ranson and Kyle Thomas topped the podium after posting a time of 1:32.00.
UMass Dartmouth’s Kenny Jean-Michel (1.98m), Vincenzo Videtta (1.94m) and Sean Patrone (1.94m) swept the medals in the high jump. Davis Preston won the 1,000 for the Corsairs in 2:35.85.
Championship host Rhode Island College had a one-two finish in the weight throw, as Brandon Mota won gold with his toss of 16.51 meters and Enrique Edjang claimed silver with a throw of 15.40 meters. Plymouth State’s Dylan Flewelling won the mile (4:20.65) and the 3,000 (8:54.37), while Eli Roth won the 800 in 1:58.28.
WOMEN'S RECAP: USM won two of the three relays, starting with Isa Moustakas Mya Austin Saya Breiting-Brown and Heaven Conley winning the 4x200 in 1:47.49 in the second track event of the day. Conley, Allie Kimball, Mya Austin and Alexis Karantza closed the day by winning the 4x400 in 4:11.88. Karantza was also an individual winner, closing the line first in the 600 (1:39.80).
Zoe Barnes topped the podium in the shot put (12.54m) and was runner-up in the weight throw (15.00m). Khalyssa Hammith won the long jump with a leap of 5.79 meters on her final attempt.
UMass Boston’s Ariyanna Garceau won three events on the day, highlighted by posting a LEC-record setting time of 8.62 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles. She also took the top of the podium in the 60-meter dash (7.74) and 200 dash (25.523).
Rhode Island College’s Haley Oliver also won a trio of gold medals, claiming victory in the mile (5:13.19), 1,000 (3:06.93) and 3,000 (10:31.36). Fellow Anchorwoman Samantha Sainristil won the weight throw (17.51m) and was runner-up in the shot put (12.38m).
Less than a week after recording multiple podium finishes at the LEC swimming & diving championships, Eastern Connecticut’s Tasha Frisch won the gold medal in the pole vault by clearing 3.55 meters. Fellow Warrior Laci Davis was victorious in the triple jump, clearing 11.04 meters in her last attempt.
Keene State’s Maggie St. John led a one-two Owls’ finish in the 5K with her time of 18:42.13, edging out teammate and runner-up Kallie Warner (18:46.20). Plymouth State’s Paige Hurst was victorious in the 400 (1:00.89), while fellow Panther Rose Karow won the 800 (2:21.55), while Ani Flynn topped the podium in the high jump by clearing 1.59 meters. UMass Dartmouth was the top team in the 4x800, as Julia Latura, Anya Aadland, Ashlyn Byrnes and Serena Carnes posted a combined time of 10:41.51.
