INDIANAPOLIS - The Plymouth State University women’s volleyball team will take on Ithaca College Thursday in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, in an eight-team regional hosted by Wesleyan College (Conn.) November 20-22. The Panthers are in the national championship for the second time in program history, the first coming back in 2004 following their first Little East Conference (LEC) title win.
Plymouth State enters the NCAA tournament with an overall record of 23-7 after winning last week’s LEC tournament as the third-seed. The Panthers swept sixth-seeded Keene State College at home before going on the road to sweep second-seeded UMass Boston in the semifinals and upend top-seeded UMass Dartmouth in four sets in the championship final. It was the third consecutive LEC final played between PSU and the Corsairs.
Ithaca is 26-4 so far this season and ranked 15th in the November 11th edition of the AVCA Division III Coaches’ Poll. The Bombers won the Liberty League title with a back-and-forth five-set victory over William Smith College in the final, after sweeping Skidmore College in the semis.
The winner of Thursday’s match will face either the host and 16th-ranked Cardinals (20-3) or New York University (19-11) in Friday’s regional semifinals.
The other side of the regional bracket will see No. 6 Colby College (23-3) take on Marymount University (17-16) and Babson College (22-7, receiving votes) face No. 21 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (20-7).
