WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Nicholas Noheimer '10 has been appointed as the fourteenth permanent head coach in the 54-year history of the Eastern Connecticut State University men's and women's cross country program, it has been announced by Director of Athletics Lori Runksmeier. He will officially begin his duties on Oct. 3.

A native of Willimantic and an Eastern cross country and track & field athlete from 2005-10, Noheimer is in his 15th season of collegiate coaching, having spent the last 11 years as head men's and women's cross country and assistant men's and women's track & field coach at the University of New Haven, which is transitioning to the Division I level.

Noheimer assumes the head cross country reins from David Nicholson '06, who is in the midst of his fourth season as head track & field coach. Current assistant cross country and track & field coaches Dawn Hubbell-Fiondella and Cody Mathewson will remain on the staffs of both programs.

"We are so happy to be welcoming Nick back to Eastern," said Runksmeier. "I would like to thank Eastern's administration for supporting our cross country and track and field programs with this new, full-time position. Our athletes are really going to benefit from Nick's time and energy, and I am really looking forward to great things for the programs."

Prior to being named at New Haven in the fall of 2015, Noheimer spent one year as head cross country and track & field coach at Division III Lasell University and one year as assistant men's and women's cross country and track & field coach at Division II AIC. Noheimer began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Division III Springfield College for two years beginning in the fall of 2011.

"I would like to thank Lori Runksmeier, David Nicholson, and the interview committee for this opportunity," said Noheimer. "I am excited to return to the place where I grew up and bring enthusiasm to a program that is already thriving. Our student-athletes are the heart of this program, and I can't wait to support their journey. I look forward to give back to the community that has given me so much."

Most recently at New Haven, Noheimer led three of his athletes to All-East Region status. In the 2023-24 season, he led Mohammed Abunar and William Brown to All-Conference honors, just a year after Alli Kenealy and Isabella Bostic qualified on the women's side. Noheimer was a member of the 2023 Northeast 10 indoor track and field Coaching Staff-of-the-Year.

In the Fall of 2019, Noheimer's women's team posted the highest GPA (3.56) among all of New Haven's intercollegiate programs.
In 2017, the women's cross-country team won the 15th Annual Ted Owen Cross Country Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University. In the Division II and III race, the Chargers placed their top 7 runners in the top 15 positions overall.

At UNH, Noheimer also mentored Nicole Maliborska, who finished in the top 16 at the 2017 NCAA Division II East Region Championship. With this performance, Maliborska earned All-Region honors, the first for the Chargers since 2011.

When asked about what stood out about Noheimer, Nicholson said that "(his) ability to bring athletes from any level to successful positions as individuals and his willingness to learn and help people develop. He's going to step in and bring the program to new heights."

Nicholson believes Noheimer's familiarity with the school is going to lead to success for years to come. "(Noheimer's) familiarity with the University is going to give him quite an edge. He knows how great the school is and he's going to share that vision with our recruits."

In the winter and spring seasons, Noheimer will be the lead distance coach from 800 to 10,000 meters.

During his time at AIC, Noheimer helped five of his distance athletes to All-America placements for cross country and track & field.

In two years as a graduate assistant at Springfield College, Noheimer received his Master's Degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Advanced Level Coaching. During his time at Springfield, the men's cross-country team finished sixth at the 2012 NCAA Division III East Region Championship.

As a year-round athlete at Eastern, Noheimer is currently on the all-time Top 20 list. Most notably, he ran 1200 meters in 3:18, placing his distance medley relay team second in school history. Up until 2023, the record was held by Noheimer, Mike D'Elia, Steve Clayton, and Dave Hunt. Noheimer also finds himself in the top 20 in the mile, running a time of 4:37.

Noheimer graduated from Eastern with a B.S. Degree in Physical Education and minors in Health and Coaching.
