BOSTON —Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Jacqueline Schuman has announced the selection of Ozzie Brown as the Head Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
"I am thrilled to welcome Ozzie to the UMass Boston community and as the new leader of our Cross-Country and Track & Field programs," said Schuman. "During this nationwide search, Ozzie stood out with his vast experience at the NCAA Division I and III levels and his ability to build a strong, championship culture. He is a proven recruiter and head coach who has mentored student-athletes to compete and win on the national stage."
Brown comes to the harbor campus after most recently serving as an assistant coach for the Men's and Women's Track & Field teams at Bucknell University (NCAA Division I).
"I am extraordinarily thankful to Dr. Schuman and her staff for the opportunity to lead a program with such a rich history of success. I look forward to working with the student-athletes who I know will be competitive at both the conference and national levels. I am beyond excited to work with the athletic administration and deliver an amazing student-athlete experience with a culture of excellence," said Brown.
Brown brings 15 years of college coaching and recruiting experience to UMass Boston. He has coached 14 NCAA Division III All-Americans, worked with programs that have produced 9 NCAA Division III National Champions, and mentored 18 student-athletes who have qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships.

While at McDaniel, Brown coached student-athletes to program-record times in the 60m, the 60m hurdles, and the 4x200m relay. He also served as the Diversity and Inclusion liaison for the Athletic Department.
In 2017, Brown served as the inaugural head coach of the Men's and Women's Track & Field teams at the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pennsylvania. In this inaugural role, he exceeded recruiting goals by working closely with admissions for recruiting and onboarding of student-athletes. As a USTFCCCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach, Brown also served as a Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Before Scranton, Brown was an assistant coach at Stevens Institute of Technology (2013-17), where he coached two-time national champion Gladys Njoku in the high jump and his women's team placed 4th in the 2016 Division III Indoor National Championships. He also had coaching stops at St. Lawrence University (2011-13), Moravian College (2009-11), and Gwynedd Mercy University (2008-09).
A decorated student-athlete at Moravian, Brown was the 2008 NCAA Division III Champion in the decathlon and indoor long jump. He was also a four-time All-American and a 30-time conference individual and relay champion, including 13 titles in one year while competing in the Landmark Conference.
Brown earned his bachelor's degree in business at Moravian in 2010.
Coach Brown will begin his new role with the Beacons on July 22, 2024.
