LEC Announces 2024 Baseball All-Conference Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its 2024 award recipients Wednesday, following a vote of the league’s head coaches. University of Southern Maine sophomore Kyle Douin was named the 2024 LEC Player of the Year, while Huskies’ head coach Ed Flaherty was named the 2024 LEC Coach of the Year.
 
Douin was named the LEC Player of the Year after batting .371 and slugging .737 as he totaled 62 hits, 16 doubles, three triple, 13 homers, 67 RBI and 42 runs scored. He led the LEC in doubles, home runs, RBI slugging and OPS (1.176), while ranking second in hits, fourth in runs scored and sixth in batting average. Douin registered a .972 fielding percentage at first base, being charged with just seven errors over his 248 total chances.
 
Flaherty was named LEC Coach of the Year for the 11th time in his storied career. He will enter retirement as one of the most successful coaches in collegiate baseball history, amassing 1,133 victories over 39 seasons with six LEC titles, the most recent coming in 2021, 26 NCAA tournament berths, six College World Series appearances and two Division III national championships (1991, 1997), all at USM. His tremendous success saw him inducted into the LEC Hall of Fame in 2013 as a member of the Conference’s second induction class. Flaherty was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005,
 
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth junior Adam Maher was named 2024 LEC Pitcher of the Year. The lefty enters the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament with an overall record of 6-2 to go with a 2.89 ERA and 83 strikeouts over his 53 innings of work so far this season. His most recent start saw him scatter three hits over seven innings of work in a 6-0 LEC tournament win over USM. He fanned seven in that victory.
 
UMass Boston’s Brandon Gaer was named the 2024 LEC Rookie of the Year. The freshman catcher/designated hitter batted .270 with 37 hits, five doubles, two triples, six homers, 32 RBI and 28 runs scored, while posting a near-perfect .989 fielding percentage. He was charged with just one error in 90 total chances.
