WELLESLEY, Mass. - For the third time in as many seasons, Bridgewater State University is the Little East Conference (LEC) men’s swimming & diving champion, having totaled 955 points over four days of competition at the Boston Sports Institute and Babson College.
Eastern Connecticut State University edged out Keene State College for second place by just two points; the Warriors racked up 836 points to the Owls’ 834 points. Plymouth State University placed fourth with 424 points, while Western Connecticut State University was fifth with 282 points.
BSU’s Aaron Fowler was voted the 2024 LEC Swimmer of the Year and Rookie Swimmer of the Year. Bears’ head coach Mike Caruso repeated as the LEC Coach of the Year. Fowler won his third individual title of the meet Sunday night by capturing the 200 butterfly championship in a LEC record time of 1:56.20
BSU’s Jirat Saengthong opened the final night’s competition with a LEC-record performance in the 100 freestyle, winning with a time of 47.64 seconds. Fellow Bear Connor Young followed with a winning time of 17:19.06 in the mile. The Bears’ 400 freestyle relay capped the night with a LEC-record and gold medal time of 3:11.03.
Plymouth State’s Lyden Fogg was victorious in the 50 backstroke with his time of 25.56 seconds. Eastern Connecticut’s Sam Hurlburt won the 200 breaststroke in 2:11.27. Keene State’s Aaron Turgeon was the victor in the final individual event of the meet, taking the 100 IM title in a LEC-record time of 53.39 seconds.
