INDIANAPOLIS - The Western Connecticut State University men’s soccer team will take on Franklin & Marshall College in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, it was announced Monday afternoon by the national office. The match will take place November 16th at 1:30 p.m. in a regional hosted by Connecticut College.
The Wolves (15-4-3) secured their second consecutive NCAA tournament berth by winning the Little East Conference tournament title Saturday. Top-seeded WestConn battled third-seeded Rhode Island College to a scoreless draw through 110 minutes before securing its LEC-record sixth tournament championship with a 3-1 decision on penalties. It was the Wolves fourth LEC tournament title triumph in seven seasons.
The Diplomats (9-2-7) earned an at-large berth into the NCAA tournament after falling to visiting Muhlenberg College in the Centennial Conference semifinals, 2-1. Franklin & Marshall is ranked 19th in the October 29, 2024 edition of the United Soccer Coaches Division III Poll.
The winner of Saturday's match will take on the winner of the First Round match between regional host Connecticut College (10-2-6) and Suffolk University (10-6-5) Sunday at 1 p.m. The Camels, who are receiving votes in the national poll, secured an automatic berth by defeating third-ranked Middlebury College 3-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference title game, while the Rams earned an automatic berth by winning the Conference of New England title on PKs over Roger Williams University.
