UMass Dartmouth Men’s Basketball Falls to Randolph-Macon in Sweet 16

ASHLAND, Va. - The UMass Dartmouth men’s basketball team saw its national title hopes dashed on Friday night as it dropped a 92-69 decision at Randolph-Macon College Friday night in the round of 16 of the 2022 NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
 
The Corsairs season ends with an overall record of 28-5. The Yellow Jackets, who entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in the D3hoops.com Poll, improved to 30-1 with the win, and will next host WPI in the Elite Eight Saturday night.
 
Miles Mallory led all scorers with 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field and a six-for-six performance at the line for Randolph-Macon. He also posted game-high totals of 17 rebounds and six blocked shots.
 
Buzz Anthony registered a double-double with 18 points and 12 assists for the Yellow Jackets. Will Coble also scored 18 points in his 28 minutes off the bench, draining 6-of-9 three-point attempts in the game.
 
UMass Dartmouth was once again led by 2022 LEC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Azor, who netted 20 points with eight rebounds and seven assists. Jackson Zancan added 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor with a pair of threes, while Adam Seablom chipped in with 10 points and five boards.
 
It was a tight game for most of the first half, which featured multiple lead changes and was tied at 32-all following an Isaac Percy layup with 6:43 remaining. The Yellow Jackets then used a 12-0 run to close out the period to take a 44-32 lead at the break and never looked back.
 
Randolph Macon shot 48.5 percent (33-68) from the field and 47.6 percent (10-21) from three while hitting all 16 free throw attempts. The Corsairs shot 40.6 percent (26-64) from the floor and 35.7 percent (4-15) from three while hitting 12-of-18 free throws.
