Field Athlete of the Week
Ben Drummey, Southern Maine
Drummey again claimed LEC Field Athlete of the Week honors after he once again set a new indoor program record in the pole vaulted by clearing 5.12 meters, which ranks him 20th on the all-time NCAA Division III performance list, at the Maine State Championships on Saturday. Drummey now holds the top three marks in program history and the top three heights reached this season by a Division III athlete.
Track Athlete of the Week
Terrell Lewis (New Boston, N.H.) - Senior - Plymouth State
Lewis was named the LEC Track Athlete of the Week after he ran his best time of the season to capture the NEICAAA title in the 60-meter hurdles at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on Saturday. He topped the field in his preliminary heat and was second-fastest in the prelims overall with a time of 8.34 seconds. In the finals, he breezed past the competition to win the title in 8.24 seconds, besting two NCAA Division I runners and four D-II runners in the eight-person final. His 8.24-second mark is tied for the 10th fastest time in the nation.
Rookie Field Athlete of the Week
Jacob Jackson (Auburn, Maine) - Freshman - Southern Maine
Jackson was named LEC Rookie Field Athlete of the Week after posting a trio of top-five finishes at the Maine State Championships. He won the high jump clearing 1.85 meters, took fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.05 meters, and finished fifth in the long jump at 6.25 meters. His mark in the triple jump ranks third in the LEC and 17th in New England.
Rookie Track Athlete of the Week
David Bennett (Newton, Mass.) - Freshman - UMass Dartmouth
Bennett was named LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Week after turning in a time of 51.18 seconds at Tufts’ Cupid Challenge. That mark placed him fourth in the event over the weekend, and ranks first in the LEC this season.
Relay of the Week
Rhode Island College 4x400
RIC’s 4x400m relay team comprised of freshmen Mahari Nayte and Justin Dorsey (Warwick, R.I.), junior Austin Michael and senior Jake Cardello (Cranston, R.I.) finished first with a time of 3:42.58 at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational.
