PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its 2022 women’s cross country major award winners Friday, following a vote of the conference’s head coaches.
UMass Dartmouth senior Alexa Van Voorhis was named the 2022 LEC Runner of the Year. She was the individual champion of the 2022 LEC Women’s Cross Country Championship, winning the 5K race in 19:45.5Van Voorhis, who was named the LEC Runner of the Week three times this season, is the first-ever Corsair to be named the LEC Runner of the Year.
Keene State State’s Maggie St. John was elected the 2022 LEC Rookie of the Year. She was second only to Van Voorhis at the LEC Championship, crossing the finish line in 19:48.7. She is the third Owl to be named the LEC Rookie of the Year, the most recent being Rachel Klaski in 2013.
Keene State head coach Dan Roark was honored as the LEC Coaching Staff of the Year, leading the Owls to their first conference championship since 2018 in his first season of cross country.
