GORHAM, Maine – For the tenth time in his distinguished baseball coaching career at the University of Southern Maine, head coach Ed Flaherty has been selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) as this year’s recipient of the ABCA/ATEC NCAA Division III New England Regional Coach of the Year award.
Coaches of the Year are selected by members of the ABCA All-America and Coach of the Year Committees. The ABCA announced its annual National and Regional Coaches of the Year for all collegiate divisions on Thursday (July 1).
Flaherty guided the Huskies to a 34-11 overall record and the Little East Conference Championship Tournament title during the 2021 season. The Huskies advanced to the final game of the NCAA Division III Hartford Region before falling to Wheaton College.
Over his 36-year career at USM, Flaherty has compiled a record of 1075-471-4 (.695 W-L Pct.) and led the Huskies to a pair of NCAA Division III national titles (1991, 1997). USM has made 26 appearances in the NCAA Division III tournament under Flaherty’s direction, including eight in the last 10 seasons.
The ABCA/ATEC National and Regional Coaches of the Year will be honored on Friday, January 7 in the main clinic hall prior to the start of clinics at the 78th annual ABCA Convention, which will be held Jan. 6-9, 2022, in Chicago, Illinois.
