    Women's Soccer Coach
Ray M. Cabral was the first-ever coach of the UMass Dartmouth women’s soccer program, which began as a club team in 1988 and played its first varsity season the following year, and guided the Corsairs’ rapid rise to national prominence for seven varsity seasons. Cabral's guided UMD to a 92-26-8 overall record and qualified for six post-season tournaments, and for his efforts he was named Little East Conference (LEC) Coach of the Year in each of the league’s first four seasons (1990-93). His 92 victories and .761 winning percentage remain the program standard for head coaches.

Cabral led his 1992 Corsair squad on an historic run through the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, resulting in a national runner-up finish to cap off the program’s fourth varsity season. UMass Dartmouth posted an overall record of 17-3-2, setting a program record for victories that still stands today. The Corsairs advanced out of the first against Salem State on penalties before posting a pair of 1-0 victories over Kean and Plymouth State to claim the NCAA New England Regional crown. UMass Dartmouth followed with another 1-0 triumph over Mary Washington in the national semifinal before falling to Cortland State 1-0 in the national title match.

UMass Dartmouth was back in the NCAA tournament in 1993 and 1994, and captured its first LEC co-championship in 1993. The Corsairs also qualified for the ECAC New England Division III Championship Tournament three times (1990, 1991, 1995) during Cabral’s tenure.

Cabral was inducted into the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Hall of Fame in 2000 for his efforts guiding the women’s soccer program. He then returned to the UMass Dartmouth sidelines in 2001 as head men’s soccer coach, posting an overall mark of 63-52-12 (.543) and three ECAC tournament appearances in seven seasons. His 63 wins were the program record following his tenure, and now rank second all-time. Cabral’s combined record at UMass Dartmouth is 155-78-20 (.652).
