Hall of Fame
Eileen Fenton was one of the dominant forces in the early years of Little East Conference (LEC) women’s basketball. She was just the second player to Conference history to garner all-LEC in three seasons, the first being former teammate and 2019 LEC Hall of Fame inductee Stephanie Bogues.
She became the first UMass Boston student-athlete in any sport to be named LEC Player of the Year, taking home the honor after averaging 18.6 points and 15.2 rebounds per game in 1989-90, and to-date is the only Beacon to be named LEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. She was named a First Team all-LEC selection for the second consecutive year in 1990-91 after averaging 18.9 points and 13.3 rebounds per game, and received honorable mention in 1988-89 after averaging 12.7 points and 10.9 boards per contest.
Fenton remains the program’s single-season record holder for field goals made (196) and points (490), both were set during the 1989-90 campaign. She finished her collegiate career as the program’s all-time leaders in points (1,534), field goals made (603), free throws made (318), rebounds (1,240), and games played (99), and also held the single-season records for free throws made (119 in 1990-91), rebounds (395 in 1989-90). Fenton was the first player in program history to total 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.
Fenton earned a degree in physical education from UMass Boston in 1991. She was inducted into the UMass Boston Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003, and to-date is the only female student-athlete in the University’s history to have her number retired.
