Renée Heath distinguished herself in two sports during her four years at Southern Maine. A member of the field hockey and softball teams, Heath earned numerous conference and regional awards in both of her chosen sports.
As a member of the softball team (2001-2004), Heath-Towne served as the team’s captain in 2003 and 2004 helping the Huskies to a record of 108-56-2. Heath finished her softball career in the top seven of 11 career statistical categories. For her efforts, she was named a National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Regional All-American (2002, 2003, 2004), All-NEISCA player (2002, 2003 and 2004) three times and was a four-time All-Little East Conference selection (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004).
During her four seasons on the field hockey pitch from 2000-2003, Heath was one of the top players in the region earning NFHCA All-Region and All-Little East Conference honors. She is still in the top six in games played (4th, 89 games played), points (5th, 91 points), goals (6th, 34 goals scored) and assists (3rd, 23 assists). Heath helped the Huskies to a record of 57-35 during her career, including two berths to the ECAC New England Division III Championship. In her senior year, Heath led USM to a record of 17-6, the program’s first Little East Conference championship and an invitation to the NCAA Division III tournament, helping the Huskies’ reach the Sweet Sixteen.
Heath earned her degree exercise physiology in 2004 and her degree in nursing in 2010. She currently works as a registered nurse at Maine Medical Center.
