Pat Toomey is among the finest infielders in the storied history of the University of Southern Maine baseball program. Among his many accolades, he was a four-time All-Little East Conference (LEC) selection, first at second base as a freshman in 1998 before earning three consecutive all-conference honors at shortstop.

In addition to his LEC honors, Toomey was a three-time American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Region selection, and was named a Third Team ABCA All-American following his senior campaign in 2001. Toomey batted .423 (50-156) in his final collegiate season with 14 doubles, six home runs, 50 runs, 38 RBI and 17 stolen bases.

The Huskies, who won the LEC tournament title during Toomey’s sophomore season in 1999, competed in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in each of his four seasons, and were crowned NCAA Regional champions in 2000 and 2001.

Toomey’s name remains on the single-season and career leader lists in numerous categories. His 86 career stolen bases are still the most in USM history, while he ranks second in assists (543), fourth in hits (255), runs (194) and singles (190), eighth in games played (182) and 10th in at bats (680) on the career leader lists. He ranks fifth (29, 2000) and seventh (25, 1999) for stolen bases in a season, while ranking third in assists (169, 1999), fifth in singles (59, 1999), and ninth in hits (77, 1999) and runs (62, 1999).

Toomey earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Maine in 2002. He was inducted into Husky Hall of Fame in 2013.
