Marianna (Capomolla) Linnehan had a record-setting three-year women’s volleyball career at Eastern Connecticut State University after transferring for her sophomore season in 2004, leading the Warriors to three consecutive LEC tournament final appearances and back-to-back LEC tournament championships in 2005 and 2006.
Linnehan was a three-time All-LEC selection earning Second Team honors in her debut season at Eastern Connecticut before earning First Team honors her junior and senior campaigns. She was named the LEC Defensive Player of the Year for the first time as a junior in 2005 after leading the conference with 648 digs, and repeated as LEC Defensive Player of the Year after tallying 766 digs as a senior in 2006. She was the first player in program history to be named the LEC Defensive Player of the Year, and was the second player in conference history to win the award in consecutive seasons.
Linnehan’s senior campaign also saw her receive honorable mention to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region Team. She was also selected to play in the annual New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Senior Classic in 2006.
The Warriors compiled an overall record of 79-37 (68.1 percent) in Linnehan’s three seasons, which included an 18-3 mark in the Little East Conference regular season and a 6-1 record in the LEC tournament. The LEC Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player award debuted for the 2005 season, an honor Linnehan earned following both of Eastern Connecticut’s two LEC tournament title wins during her career.
Linnehan notched a program-record 1,929 digs during her career, a mark that still stands to this day, as are her 142 sets played in 2005. She appears twice in the program’s single-season digs list, ranking second with 766 digs in 2006 and sixth with 648 digs in 2005. Her 210 career service aces place her sixth all-time, while her 101 aces in 2006 place her fourth on the program’s single-season listing.
