Dan Holbrook played a key role in the resurgence of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men’s basketball program in the late 2000s, and was among the most decorated players in program history while playing just two-plus seasons for the Corsairs.
The 6-6 center averaged 15 points and 10.7 rebounds per game while shooting 53.2 percent from the floor and 76 percent from the line in 2005-06, his first in a Corsair uniform after transferring from Westfield State University, and garnered Second Team All-LEC honors. He appeared poised for an even stronger season as a junior, only to see his season cut short after five games due to injury.
Holbrook posted a career-best total or average in nearly every statistical category as a senior, averaging 16.2 points and 10.9 rebounds per game with 79 assists and 30 steals, while shooing 55.4 percent from the floor. He led the Corsairs to an overall record of 25-4 in his final collegiate season, leading UMass Dartmouth to a berth in the LEC title game and an at-large selection into the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
The Lexington, Massachusetts native was named the 2007-08 LEC Player of the Year and a First Team All-LEC selection for his efforts, and that was just the start of the accolades he would receive. Holbrook earned First Team All-Region honors from the D3hoops.com, the Eastern College Athletic Conference and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) before being named Second Team All-America by the NABC and Honorable Mention All-American by D3hoops.com. He was the fourth player in program history to be named an All-American by the NABC, and the first to be named an All-American by D3hoops.com.
Holbrook amassed 1,111 points and 843 rebounds over his 85 collegiate games played, 58 of which were in a Corsair uniform after transferring to UMass Dartmouth from Westfield State. His 317 rebounds in 2007-08 rank fourth in program history.
Holbrook earned his bachelor’s degree in Operations Management from UMass Dartmouth in 2008. He was inducted into the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Hall of Fame in 2017.
