Krista Ledin-Gambill had a record-setting career for the University of Massachusetts Boston women’s soccer team, and was one of the most dominant offensive players in the history of the Little East Conference (LEC), having been named the LEC Offensive Player of the Year in three of her four seasons while becoming the first and, to-date, only All-American in program history.
Ledin-Gambill started in 77 of her 84 career games played for the Beacons, which saw her own UMass Boston’s program records for goals, assists, and points in a single-game, single-season, and career, all but one of which still stand today. She totaled 105 goals, including a program record of 24 game-winners and 31 assists for 241 career points. Her career goals scored and career total points are still the most in program history. The striker’s 105 career goals currently rank 11th in NCAA Division III history, while her 241 career points are currently the 17th-most on the all-time DIII list.
Ledin-Gambill recorded single-season program record totals of 32 goals and 69 points in 2013, and a single-season record 12 assists in 2012. She set the program’s single-game records for goals (5) and points (10) in a 5-0 win over Salve Regina October 13, 2013, and tallied a program-record four assists in a 7-1 win over Framingham State University October 25, 2012.
The Bridgewater, Massachusetts native became the second player in league history to be named LEC Offensive Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons, taking home the award for the 2012 through 2014 seasons in addition to being named First Team All-LEC in each of her four seasons at the harbor campus.
In addition to her conference accolades, Ledin-Gambill was a three-time First Team Eastern College Athletic Conference and three-time Second Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (now United Soccer Coaches) All-Region selection, earning those honors her sophomore through seniors seasons. She earned the lone All-American honor of her historic career from D3soccer.com during her record-setting junior campaign in 2012.
A star in the classroom as well as on the pitch, Ledin-Gambill was a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America (now College Sports Communicators) Second Team Academic All-America and two-time First Team Academic All-District selection. She was the first player in program history to earn either award, and to-date is the only CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-America recipient in program history.
The Beacons posted an overall record of 58-19-8 during Ledin-Gambill’s tenure, including a 21-6-1 mark in conference matches. UMass Boston captured each of its first three LEC regular season titles her sophomore through senior seasons and secured the program’s first-ever LEC tournament championship and NCAA Division III Championship Tournament berth in 2012 with a 1-0 win over Western Connecticut State University.
Ledin-Gambill earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from UMass Boston in 2015, and was inducted into the UMass Boston Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022.
