Amy Zombeck was a prolific scorer in the late 1990s for Keene State College, helping the Owls find immediate success in the Little East Conference and NCAA Division III.
Zombeck was named a First Team All all-LEC midfield selection and garnered National Soccer Coaches Association of America (now United Soccer Coaches) All-Region honors in each of her two seasons playing in the LEC after Keene State became a full conference member for the 1997-98 academic year. She was voted the 1998 LEC Player of the Year after scoring 18 goals with five assists for 41 total points, going on to be named First Team All-Region and Second Team All-America by the NSCAA.
She finished her career third all-time in points (107) and (42) goals in just three seasons at Keene State, marks that place her fourth as of this date. Her 23 career assists tie her for 11th on the program’s all-time list. Her 18 goals (fifth) and 41 points (eighth) still rank in the top-10 totals for a season in program history, as do her 10 assists (eighth) as a freshman in 1996.
The Owls found immediate success in the LEC earning a share of the LEC title and earning their first DIII tournament berth in 1998. The Owls went 46-12-3 with Zombeck leading the offensive attack, and made a pair of ECAC tournament appearances in addition to the 1998 NCAA tournament berth.
Zombeck bridged the gap between Keene State’s final days as a member of the Division II New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) and the LEC. She was an All-NECC performer in her first season as an Owl in 1996 after transferring from Wheaton (Mass.) College.
Zombeck earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Keene State in 1999, and was inducted into the Keene State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. She went on to enter the coaching ranks, and is entering her 18th season leading UMass Boston in 2023, where she has recorded a program-record 175 victories. Zombeck is a three-time LEC Coach of the Year, guiding the Beacons to two LEC tournament titles and two NCAA Division III tournament appearances.
