Tahrike Carter starred in the backcourt for the Rhode Island College men’s basketball from 2009-13, helping lead the Anchormen to three Little East Conference (LEC) regular season and tournament championship teams and four NCAA Division III Championship Tournament berths.
 
Named the 2012-13 LEC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Carter was a three-time All-LEC selection, earning All-Rookie honors as a freshman before garnering Second Team All-LEC honors as a junior and First Team All-LEC laurels as a senior. He was additionally named a LEC All-Defensive Team selection his junior and senior campaigns.
 
The 2012-13 was the most decorated of Carter’s collegiate career, which saw him average 10.7 points, a team-high 6.6 rebounds, a team-leading 3.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game while starting in all 30 games. In addition to his LEC awards, Carter was named a Second Team All-American a  National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and a Third Team All-American by D3hoops.com. He was also named First-Team All-District/All-Region selection by both organizations, and was chosen to participate in the 2013 NABC Reese’s Division III College All-Star game.
 
The Brooklyn, New York native became the first player in league history to earn LEC Player of the Year, LEC Defensive Player of the Year and LEC Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors in the same season after leading the Anchormen to their third league title in four years with a 60-53 win over Keene State. RIC finished that season with an overall record of 26-4, tying the program record for wins in a season, and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA tournament.  
 
Carter averaged 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while also averaging a team-high 4.2 assists and a team-high 1.6 steals in his first season as a permanent starter as a junior, which saw him start in each of his 29 games played. RIC received an at-large berth in the NCAA tournament after falling to Eastern Connecticut in the 2012 LEC title game, advancing to the Second Round.  The Anchormen won the LEC regular season and tournament championships in each of Carter’s first two seasons, which concluded with consecutive berths in the Sweet 16.
 
Carter closed out his four-year career at Rhode Island College having started in 80 of his 118 games played, compiling 823 points, 530 rebounds, 313 assists, 141 steals and 31 blocked shots. His 118 games played are the most in program history, while his 313 career assists rank 10th all-time at RIC.
 
Carter  earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Rhode Island College in 2015. He was inducted into the RIC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.
