Deon Barrett is one of the most successful competitors in the history of the UMass Dartmouth men’s cross country program, which culminated with an All-America performance in the final race of his collegiate career.

Barrett won three consecutive individual Little East Conference (LEC) championships from 1992-94 while helping lead UMass Dartmouth to four consecutive LEC men’s cross country titles (1991-94). He was the first men’s cross country runner to win three consecutive conference titles, a feat that wasn’t equaled until 2018, and was the second to win three individual conference championships overall.

Barrett was also among the top performers in the New England Region, placing in the top-30 in each of his four seasons with a pair of top-20 finishes. His senior season saw him place a career-best 11th at the regional championship, a performance that would qualify him to compete at the NCAA Division III National Championship as an individual. Barrett placed 24th and the national meet, earning All-America honors. He was the seventh individual to turn in an All-American performance in program history, and the first Corsair do so after founding the LEC in 1986.

Barrett  earned her bachelor’s in graphic design from UMass Dartmouth in 1995. He was inducted into the Corsair Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.
