Plymouth State’s Brunnette Wins NCAA Men’s Cross Country Regional, host Southern Maine Leads all LEC Teams with 10th-Place Finish

GORHAM, Maine – 2017 Little East Conference Champion and Runner of the Year recipient Sam Brunnette (Newport, Vt.) won the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country New England Regional Championship Saturday with a time of 25:22.8. The Plymouth State University junior will next compete at the NCAA Division III National Championship November 18, hosted by Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. 

Regional host University of Southern Maine led the way among the conference's participating teams; the 2017 LEC champions placed 10th overall with 313 points. Keene State College was second among LEC teams after finishing 18th with 548 points, while Plymouth State placed 20th with 583 points.

Southern Maine sophomore Chandler Vincent (Pownal, Maine) also recorded a top-20 individual finish, placing 17th in 25:52.8. Plymouth State junior Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) was third among LEC finishers, crossing the line in 26:17.6 to finish 41st overall.

As top-35 finishers, Brunnette and Vincent were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as all-region performers. The USTFCCCA also named Brunette the New England Region Runner of the Year in recognition of his first-place finish.
