Poole Resigns From Western Connecticut Volleyball Post

DANBURY, Conn. — After six very successful seasons at the helm of the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball program, Greg Poole will resign from his head coaching position, on November 25, to become the Associate Director of Alumni Relations at his alma meter Springfield College.

"I wanted to thank all of the our current players, former players, Western coaches, and Administrative staff for making Western such a special place for me over the last six years," lamented Poole. "We were able to achieve some amazing things within our volleyball program and this position was everything I hoped it would be (and more) when I was hired in March of 2006.

" I am excited about the new professional opportunity in my life, but it has been challenging and emotional making the decision to leave people and a place that you care for so deeply," added Poole. "I take great comfort in knowing that our returning players for the 2012 season is an amazing group of young women who will continue to lead Western volleyball to the very highest level! The future of Colonials' volleyball is VERY bright!"

Poole guided the Colonials to a 123-62 overall record, a 66.5 winning percentage, since taking the post in March of 2006. During that six-year span, Western went 26-14 in the highly competitive Little East Conference.

This past season, which ended on November 1 in the LEC Quarterfinals, Western went 24-9 overall and were 5-2 in the LEC's regular season.

In his first season, the Colonials went 8-16 overall and qualified for the Little East Conference Tournament with a 4-3 record.

In 2007, Western's record improved to 19-13, 5-1 in the LEC. A year later, the Colonials won 19 games again (19-9) and advanced to the second round of the Little East Conference Tournament.

In 2009, the Colonials went 26-8 and he surpassed the coveted 200-career win plateau.

Prior to his appointment at Western, Poole was the head coach at Western New England University. In nine seasons, the Golden Bears went 136-114.

His 15-year collegiate coaching record is 259-176.

A year ago, Poole guide Western through a 27-9 overall record, his highest win total at Western, and advanced to the semifinals of the Little East Conference Tournament after going 4-3 in the league in the regular season.

Poole, a native of Fairport, New York, is a 1996 graduate of Springfield College where he was a member of the men's volleyball team for three seasons. In 1999, he earned his master's degree from SC.
